I wanted these recorded in our family journal.
We were driving home yesterday when Joshua very sincerely said, "Hey Mom, did you know that someday I'm going to call Daddy from my rocket in space?" Hey, he's reaching for the stars and that's just fine with me.
Mercedes was a thunderstorm yesterday. She was crying non-stop about just about everything. I was getting pretty good about tuning her out, but decided that I deserved a piece of chocolate anyway. So, I snuck into the kitchen (away from her) and I carefully unwrapped a piece so as to not make any noise. Within seconds she was there, looking up at me with wanting eyes. She KNOWS that she cannot get any treats when she is crying. So, just about as fast as turning on a light switch, she turned off her tears. Immediately, she looks up at me and with the sweetest smile says, "I all done crying now. I have treat too?" Stinker. Just as she knows she can't have a treat while crying, she also knows how to control it.
When Grandma Haws was here, we made a trip to Home depot and Joshua became quite taken by the playhouse/tree house displays. Grandma Haws told Joshua that someday he'd have one just like those. I didn't know about that conversation, but the next time we went to Home Depot, Joshua looked at me quite perplexed and asked me how such a big tree house would fit inside such a small cart. He was disappointed that day. But, since then he has become somewhat obsessed by this said tree house and his mind has been whirling with grand ideas. Luckily, he has it set in his mind that Papa will be the one to build it. It will have a green roof, a fireman pole, a little trampoline inside so that he can jump from the tree house to the big trampoline that will be outside of the tree house. Oh, and he reminds me that the adults must duck their heads but the little kids won't have to.
Today I overheard Maggie and Joshua playing. Maggie said to Joshua, "you must be fourteen because you are the daddy. I will be threeteen because I am the Mommy."
