Joshua's First Day of School

Well, it happened. I have a kid old enough to be in preschool. My little Joshua isn't quite so little anymore.

Jon Mark has warned me that boys don't spill details as easily as girls do. I wasn't worried, I told him that I'd train my boys to tell me details of their happenings at an early age. That way, when they're teenagers, it won't be difficult for them. This task has not come easily after all. It seems that boys really do have a harder time sharing openly with their mothers all that their mothers want to know. Oh, he talks to me just fine, but I'm not satisfied with the word "fine" when I ask him how school was. I'm not even satisfied with "it was awesome", although that is nice to hear. I want details... What are the names of the kids in your class? How was it to finally get to play in the little house on the playground? Did you ride the tricycle? Did you make any new friends? Was it fun riding on the bus? What did you have for a snack? Did you like using your rain boots to jump in the puddles? And so on... I guess the important thing is that it appears to be that he loves school. He's excited to go each afternoon, and he talks positively about his teachers. But, just so you know, it has become a rule that Joshua must hug me and talk to me about his day before he can do anything else after school. This has helped.

Today my heart got an extra dose of moosh when Joshua came running to me to kiss me when he saw the bus round the corner to pick him up. He was running full speed and so his kiss landed on my nose. He laughed, hurried and kissed me again just to have it land on my chin. The third time it did land on my mouth and he seemed satisfied with that and then boarded the bus.
