#1 I'm thankful for the funny things Joshua says. I just got off of the phone with his teacher (who thinks he's a brilliant, caring, inquisitive child) and she told me the following. She said they were talking about what people in the community do for work and Joshua volunteered that his dad was a lawyer. She asked if he knew what a lawyer was and he said, "ummm, lawyers are pretty much heros..." I thought that was one of the cutest things ever. Just for recording sake: Joshua is learning how to read pretty much all on his own, and is putting together simple math concepts on his own also. Such as, "Mom, did you know that three groups of two equals six? I have six toys that I put into groups of two and that equals six." He is a pretty smart kid. However, I was comforted to know (and sad too) that he dislikes music time at school just as much as he does at church.... so, it's nothing I'm doing wrong as the music chorister. He also dislikes writing his name and acts like it's the most boring thing ever invented. She said he's very caring to his classmates and that he never wants to play the bad guy when he and his friends are playing cops and robbers.I was impressed with his teacher's knowledge and by how well she knows my son. So, consider this post the grown up version of show and tell. Haha, my kids are better than your kids (said in the most annoying sing-song voice you can imagine) .
#2 I'm thankful for how sensitive my daughter is. Sometimes her sensitivity can be taxing because looking at her the wrong way can send her into a crying fit, but her sensitivity makes her so caring to the needs of Luke (when she's not fighting with him) . She cares about his safety and is very aware of how safe or unsafe he is being. She will be the first to tell me when he is climbing up the bunkbed ladder or running in the street. When she does get reprimanded, she's quick to forgive. All is not well until she gives, and gets, a hug and a kiss. The other day Jon Mark was reprimanding her and had a furrow in his brow. Mercedes looked at him very concerned and said, "Dad, you have a butt on your head." (Speaking of the creases in his brow. I snickered and didn't know how Jon Mark could possibly keep a straight face. It turns out that he hadn't heard her. It was funny. We are currently in the process of stopping the thumb sucking habit (again) ..
