A Day At The Park

We had the opportunity to go to a really neat park last week. We took the Gaskin Girls along with us, because it's always more fun when there are friends to play with, and headed out to Beachwood, Ohio.

The park is called Preston's H.O.P.E, and it was built it honor of a little boy who died of muscular dystrophy. His mother raised 3 million dollars to build a playground where kids of all abilities could play.

It was a really hot day, and there wasn't much shade. But, as far as playgrounds go, this one was the best. They had some really neat toys. They all loved the huge sandbox and the teeter totter.

We've had a lot of fun this summer, and we love it when daddy is able to come with us on our adventures. It's always a lot more fun, and less stressful for me.

Although I don't have any pictures of it, the kids and I went on a boat ride around Lake Erie and up the Cuyahoga river. The kids really enjoyed being on a "ship" and it was neat to learn some of the history of Cleveland. I think it would have been better if it was only an hour long ride, because Mercedes was really cranky after having missed her nap, but we had a good time. We went with some friends in the ward and their kids. Joshua and Hayden had a blast with each other. I should get them together more often so that he'd have some boy interaction. I really wish we had taken our camera with us so that we'd have some pictures. Oh well. These park ones will have to do.

One side little story... On the boat, I am pretty sure two little boys (like sevenish) looked up my skirt. I was looking out over the water when I heard some giggling. I looked down and saw two boys crawling under my skirt. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I gave them the stink eye, and their camp leader really yelled at them. I bet they were surprised to see "shorts" under my skirt. Next time they want to play a Peeping Tom, they might want to pick a non-Mormon lady to peep on. Just sayin'.

We also went down to the beach again this week. The water was the choppiest that I have ever seen it. It was really, really windy, and the waves were really tumultuous. In fact, at one point the water was picking up rocks the size of my head and pretty much throwing them to shore. At that point I had decided we had better go home. I am ALWAYS nervous about going to the beach with the kiddos by myself. Mercedes is just way too bold and I am worried that if I am not always holding her hand, then off she'd go and drown. So, we usually stay in one spot and I hold Mercedes' hand while Joshua plays in the sand no more than ten feet away.

Joshua starts school on August 22nd, and I'm kind of sad about that. It's only a few hours every day, but I know I'm going to miss my little man.
