For our anniversary this year (we celebrated a month early due to other circumstances--our anniversary is really on June 25th), Jon Mark surprised me with an indoor skydiving trip. It was really nice to be able to get away for 24 hours and just spend time with Jon Mark. Indoor skydiving was awesome. It really did feel like I was flying. Air did shoot up through my nose so fast that I swear it rattled my brain, but other than a near nose-bleed, it was a lot of fun. At one point the guide took me up really high (like WAY high) and then we spun down together. That was probably the best part. Oh, one thing you must know before doing such an activity... when you get in the wind tunnel, your immediate reaction is to smile. DO NOT do an open mouth smile. The moment you open your mouth, your entire face will be sprayed with your spit, and you can't break your position to wipe it off. Just FYI.
Here I am in my gear:
Here's Jon Mark in his gear.
Here I am after my first flying attempt. Notice that some of my hair fell out of the helmet? This was not a good thing. Talk about tangles! I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to get the front part of my hair untangled.
Here is Jon Mark after his first flight.
The next two pictures are of Jon Mark, we didn't get any still shots of me flying, but we didn't get any video of Jon Mark either. He has the photos, I have the video.
It was a nice day. Skydiving (indoor), movie, eating out, ice cream etc. I loved spending so much time with Jon Mark without having the kids around (I love them, but it was nice having a break and one on one time with my husband).
I can't believe five years have flown by. Here are the top happenings in our five years of marriage (in no particular order):
10: We have moved six (soon to be seven) times in our five years.
9: Jon Mark graduated college and began working at the JLBC
8: Acceptance into Case Western School of Law
7: After teaching for two years, I was able to have a baby and stay home. Then Mercedes joined our family not too long after.
6: We have done some adventurous activities: we hiked the canyon of Salome Creek and repelled out of it, indoor skydiving, wake boarding, hiked Squaw Peak and Y mountain too many times to number, met a moose (seriously, we did) on a night hike up Mt Timp., hiked up an iced over avalanche, hiked to the top of Bridal Veil Falls and stood beneathe the water falling off of it, we've been camping, mountain biking, alpine sliding, etc.
5: We (and I do mean we) have survived giving birth to two babies. I couldn't have done it without my best friend and coach by my side. He is totally awesome at supporting me, coaching me, and loving me during such challenging and painful experiences. While I was unprepared for how difficult giving birth would be, I also was unprepared for how much love I would feel toward my husband for being so wonderful. Childbirth really does bring an added bond to the husband/wife relationship.
4: We have made three trips to Utah, only one of which was for a happy occasion, and one trip to Texas.
3: We've learned that Jon Mark is the ultimate man when it comes to roaches and bugs.
2: We've stuck our hands into below freezing water for one minute (Jon Mark suffered a "freezer" burn for a few weeks after), and Jon Mark has been tased (stun gun) as a part of a man challenge. We've been swimming during every month of the year (well, Jon Mark anyway, I did go swimming in Feb and Jan though).
1: We celebrated five years of awesome marriage together! Gosh, I love Jon Mark! Here's to forever!
