On June 21st, at approximately 1:55 pm, Mercedes made her way into this world. She's a beautiful baby, weighing in at 8 lbs 1 oz and is 21 inches long. She eats all the time, and so I introduced a pacifier (I know you're supposed to wait, but my body needed a rest). My labor and delivery went remarkably well, and was virtually pain free! Such a huge difference. Plus, I only pushed for about ten minutes this time! WONDERFUL! My after birth pains are pretty bad, I wasn't really expecting that, but modern medicine is a wonderful thing!
Mercedes gave us quite a scare soon after she was born. She apparently swallowed a large amount of amniotic fluid (they later extracted about a pill bottle amount of fluid), and she couldn't breathe very well for about a minute. She came out screaming and then fell silent. I was so scared and all I could do was pray over and over again that Heavenly Father would help our little girl. I felt so helpless. It wasn't very long, I realized later, but it felt like such a long time in the moment. I knew it was serious when the dr. stopped stitching me up to help out with the baby. When I heard her cry, I felt such a relief wash over me, and then all I wanted to do was say a prayer of thanks. I realized immediately that Heavenly Father had heard and answered my many prayers leading up to the birth that the doctor's and nurses would be of sound mind and know what to do should a problem arise. I am incredibly thankful for knowledgeable doctors and nurses... and for modern technology and medicine. Such blessings! Other than that, all is well! Here are a few pictures.
