Applying the Scriptures: Deliverance

Howdy! I just thought I'd take a moment and record some of the thoughts and feelings I have had recently while reading my scriptures. Deliverance: 1.The act of delivering or the condition of being delivered. 2. Rescue from bondage or danger. With an upcoming graduation (okay, so it's still a year away), I have spent a lot of time thinking about our future. Will we have a job? How soon will we receive a job offer? How much money will we be offered? Will it be enough to cover our cost of living as well as our student loan expenses? Like a broken record, these thoughts can enter my mind and cause some stress and anxiety. I was on the phone with Jessica today and I kind of unloaded some of these thoughts onto her. I wish I had recorded the conversation (cuz that wouldn't be the least bit weird or anything) because I like how eloquently she spoke. I probably won't do her words justice, but I will try. She reminded me to apply the scriptures to my own life. Throughout the scriptures there are so many examples of how the Lord delivers His people. Just to name a few: Christ delivers us from sin, and from death. Moses, and the children of Isreal were dilivered, Noah and his family were delivered as they traveled the seas, the people of Zeniff were delivered from the Lamanites, Nephi was delivered from the hands of Laban, and so on... Often times, when His children experience fear or doubt, the Lord reminds them of His power to deliver. He uses the examples of how He has delivered their fathers (in a sense saying, "I delivered them, I will deliver you also"). After they are brought to a rememberance, they go forth and do whatsoever the Lord has asked them to do with renewed faith. "Yea, in the strength of the Lord did we go forth to battle against the Lamanites; for I and my people did cry mightily to the Lord that he would deliver us out of the hands of our enemies, for we were awakened to the rememberance of the deliverance of our fathers. And God did hear our cries and did answer our prayers; and we did go forth in His might." (Mosiah 9:17-18). "Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith. Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people. For behold, I will show unto you that they were brought into bondage, and none could deliver them but the Lord their God, yea, even the God of Abraham and Isaac and of Jacob. And it came to pass that he did deliver them, and he did show forth his mighty power unto them, and great were their rejoicings." (Mosiah 23: 21-24). We were put on earth to be tested, and to have our faith tried. But, as we put our trust in the Lord (especially in times of uncertainty or when we may doubt), He will see us through. He will deliver us from whatsoever it is that we may be suffering from. In my case, anxiety of an unknown future. "Alma went forth and stood among them, and exhorted them that they should not be frightened, but that they should remember the Lord their God and He would deliver them." (Mosiah 23:27) "Therefore, they hushed their fears and began to cry unto the Lord..." (Mosiah 23:28). They hushed their fears, and they began to cry unto the Lord. What a demonstration of faith and courage. On the condition that we remember the Lord, He will deliver us. All in all, everything will work out.
