I'm told I come from a long line of trash pickers on the Haws side. I never knew I'd be one until I moved to Cleveland.
While it is embarrassing, I have found a lot of neat things on the curb. I have long since perfected the art of casually driving by a trash pile to check it out, just to park my minivan and quickly load up the treasure. The tricky part is the transition between load it up and getting the heck out of dodge before someone identifies me.
We sing a song on Monday mornings as we drive around the neighborhood. It goes like this: Treasure in the trash, treasure in the trash, we are looking for the treasure in the trash. Oh, wow, what am I doing to my kids??!! I like to think that I am teaching them frugality and resourcefulness. Am I really just teaching them to love trash?! All I know is, Monday now has a perk.
Check out this transformation:

Pretty good, eh?
Here's a list of things I have found on the curb:
Two bikes
A basketball hoop and stand
A large hamper
A large plastic container
A set of drawers
A dresser
A computer desk (that I recently redid with my sander and it looks AMAZING)
SOOOO many chairs
A mirror
A fancy chair
Books
A child's desk
Shoe organizer
Wood, lots of wood
Two ottomans
A riding toy
A kitchen island
A shelf thing (pictured above)
Basket
A high chair
I have found other things that I have unfortunately been unable to lift. Darn. But, that's a pretty solid list. I promise I'm not crazy. I am maybe headed in that direction, but I'm not there yet. HAHA!
Anyway, the next post I do, I will have pictures of my house. I have redecorated a little here and there, and it hardly cost me anything to do it (because of said trash picking and frugality, I use what I've got and I've got what's been used--now that's a catchy saying). It's not anything fancy, but I'll post pictures anyway for family in AZ. There you have it. I am signing off.
