Joshua's tab: $175 and Counting...
Okay, we've all heard the saying, "boys will be boys". My Joshua is NOT the exception. This week, we made our first trip to the ER with Joshua. I'm sure that over the years there will be many more trips, but hey, the first has got to count for something... Yeah, try a $125 copay (and that's with insurance). Here's how the story begins... At about 12:45 or so, I was folding laundry on the couch in the front room. Joshua kept pulling on my pants and saying, "ide" which is short for outside, in case you don't speak Joshua's language. I couldn't go outside at the time, so I settled for the next best thing. Our front room is connected to an enclosed patio. So, I left the sliding door open and Joshua was content to go in and out as he pleased. I was content that he was playing on his own so that I could finish getting the laundry folded and put away before Jon Mark got home. Well, our blissful state didn't last but a few minutes. I heard a popping noise followed by the lights being shut off. I knew immediately what had happened. At first I panicked. My panicky state didn't last too long, because Joshua soon rounded the corner with a very dazed look. I went out onto the patio to confirm my suspicions... I was correct, Joshua managed to jam my keys into the outlet. My key was charred and melted. I inspected Joshua. There were no obvious burn marks, nor did he seem "shocked" in the literal sense. I was just going to count my blessings and say a prayer of thanks and call it good. But, then I talked to my sister in law, Michelle. She scared me. So, I woke Joshua up from his nap and took him to the doctor. There went my first 25 dollars. After a very LONG game of "wait for a long time for the doctor to see you" we were finally seen... just to be sent on the the ER for an EKG (there goes $125). Everything was fine. But, just to make double sure, we were sent to a cardiologist the next day for an ultrasound of his heart (there goes $25 more dollars). So, you may be wondering, "Has Joshua learned his lesson?" Let me answer that question with a resounding "NO!". While we were waiting in the doctor's office, moments after this whole shocking experience, he managed to find my keys in my backpack and I watched as he shook his head while walking over to the light socket in order to see if the same sparks would fly. Don't worry, I took them away and he has lost the privilege of playing with keys. On a serious note, I am thankful that nothing serious did happen. All's well. Now, if only that was the last trip to the ER that we will ever have to make.
