It has happened... and we have had a couple of long nights. Luke has learned to climb out of his crib.
I searched high and low and every place in between for crib nets. Apparently, they no longer make them for safety reasons.
I was desperate. So, I constructed my own. I actually felt kind of like my mother inlaw as I was doing it (she is a very smart lady who can fix almost anything with the stuff she has on hand).
My little invention worked great, Luke didn't climb out. But, I didn't feel right about it. The fact that it looked like a jail didn't bother me, but I feared that Luke would somehow find a way to make it deadly. So, after some collaboration, I came to the decision that it wasn't safe and I didn't use it for anything other than taking these pictures. It's a twin sheet with elastic fastners on the bottom that went under the crib to hold it down.
I eventually decided to just turn the crib around so that the high back was forward and the short side was against the wall. On a fluke, Luke discovered how to climb out of it, though. I don't know what we'll do if he can do it again.
This kid is so smart and so strong. I am constantly pulling out my hair wondering how I can keep him safe. He jumps off of dressers, climbs out of cribs, pushes the step stool to the toaster over so that he can play with it, throws toilet paper rolls into the toilet and then plays in the toilet, sticks whole carrots in his mouth (that Mercedes will occassionaly give him without my knowledge), climbs on top of the buffet table, runs on the kitchen table, hides on other people's porches, and the list goes on. I feel like I always have to be on my toes. But, he's cute, so I won't be putting him up for sale any time soon:)
